A Potter Wasp working on a final tube of mud in which to lay an egg, but constantly stopping to inspect the rest of its work.

Perhaps it is looking for any sign of intrusion, and with good reason for a Cuckoo Wasp, (stilbum cyanurum), is hanging around nearby.
